Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have inspected the Chernobyl nuclear power plant shelter, which was damaged by a Russian drone.
According to the organization’s report, the strike caused a hole about 6 meters in diameter in the roof of the sarcophagus. The attack damaged the inner and outer shell of the arch, some equipment and electrical cables, but the support beams remained intact.
IAEA experts working at the site detected smoke and the smell of burning plastic. The fire was caused by flammable material in the roof sheathing.
Repairs to the shelter should begin when the fire is completely extinguished. Meanwhile, IAEA representatives confirmed the Ukrainian authorities’ report that the radiation level at the site has not changed.
On February 14, Russians attacked Ukraine with 133 drones. During the attack, one of the drones with an explosive warhead hit the New Protective Shell, which covers the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
