A rescue operation is ongoing in the Bucha district of Kyiv region following a Russian strike on August 28 that caused a fire and subsequent detonation. At least 27 people are known to have been killed and dozens injured. Around 400 people have already been evacuated.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported on the situation at the scene of the tragedy.
In the morning, Koretskyi arrived in Bucha district, where he heard reports from the interior minister, the head of the State Emergency Service and the leadership of the regional military administration.
“At this moment, 27 people are known to have been killed. There are injured people. All necessary emergency services are working at the scene,” Koretskyi wrote.
Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy caused by the Russian strike. Criminal proceedings have been opened.
“In the fifth year of the full-scale war, we have no right to allow tragedies similar to the one that happened in Vyshneve and this one in Bucha district to be repeated,” he said.
Kostiantyn Liberov published photos from the site of the attack in Bucha district, where a fire followed by detonation broke out after the strike. The images show the extensive scale of the destruction.
As a reminder, at around 20:10 the previous day, a drone, the type of which is being determined, either fell or struck the territory of an enterprise in the village of Myla in Kyiv region. A large-scale fire then broke out and detonation began. Investigators are examining the causes and circumstances that may have significantly worsened the consequences of the Russian attack. In particular, they will determine whether the placement and storage of explosive items and materials at the enterprise was lawful, whether the necessary permits and approvals were in place, and examine the actions of officials who made the relevant decisions.
The head of the Dmytrivka community, Taras Didych, was killed as a result of the Russian attack in Kyiv region. He was among the first to arrive at the site of the strike in Bucha district to help people and was killed during the detonation.
