On May 21, Latvia issued a warning about a potential threat in the airspace over the regions of Ludza, Krāslava, and Rēzekne. As a result, train service was temporarily suspended in parts of the country.
This was reported by the publication Delfi.
Residents of Latgale have been warned about a possible threat in the airspace for the third day in a row.
The Latvian National Armed Forces reported that, together with NATO allies, they are constantly monitoring the airspace to ensure a rapid response to potential threats. Air defense units have also been reinforced along the eastern border.
Residents have been urged to remain in shelters, close windows and doors, and follow the “two-wall” principle. If suspicious objects are spotted in the air, people are asked to call 112.
Due to the threat, train service has been temporarily suspended in the Ludza, Rēzekne, and Krāslava districts. According to AS Pasažieru vilciens, the Riga–Zilupe train was stopped at the Vīļāni station. The company noted that services are not being canceled and will resume once the threat has passed.
The Latvian National Armed Forces stated that as long as Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, there may be further instances of foreign drones entering or approaching the country’s airspace.
