        Zelenskyy negotiates with Latvia on joint air defense against drones

        Ukraine plans to sign a “Drone Deal” agreement with Latvia to establish a multi-layered air defense system against various types of threats. Kyiv also plans to send its military experts to Latvia to share expertise in the field of air defense.

        This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a meeting with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.

        According to Zelenskyy, the parties focused primarily on security cooperation during the talks. Ukraine proposed cooperation with Latvia under the Drone Deal framework to build a multi-layered system to protect airspace from various types of threats.

        The President of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian specialists could travel to Latvia to share expertise and provide assistance in the field of airspace defense.

        “We will send our experts to Latvia to share expertise and provide direct assistance in airspace defense. It is important to work together to strengthen Europe’s defense,” Zelenskyy noted.

        The presidents also discussed the security situation in the region. Zelenskyy emphasized that Russian aggression remains the source of threats in Europe and thanked Latvia for its shared position on this matter.

        Separately, the parties touched on the issue of Ukraine’s European integration. The President of Ukraine stated the importance of opening all negotiation clusters regarding EU accession as soon as possible and thanked Latvia for supporting Kyiv in this process.
