Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with US President Donald Trump’s representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The sides discussed, among other issues, setting a date for their visit to Ukraine, which Zelensky said could be useful for developing solutions aimed at achieving peace.
Zelensky announced the talks in a statement.
“A good phone call with President Trump’s representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. It was detailed and constructive,” Zelensky said.
The president stressed that dialogue between the Ukrainian and US negotiating teams is ongoing. The sides are now working to determine a date for the US representatives’ visit to Ukraine.
“This trip would be very useful for working out solutions toward peace,” Zelensky wrote.
During the conversation, Zelensky also briefed Witkoff and Kushner on the situation on the battlefield. According to the Ukrainian president, Russia’s gains remain limited and are being achieved at the cost of enormous losses.
The sides also discussed Russian air strikes against Ukraine. Zelensky noted that Witkoff and Kushner are well informed about many details of the situation.
The Ukrainian and US negotiating teams will remain in contact to work on the agenda and determine the most convenient schedule for further communication.
Zelensky thanked Trump, Witkoff, Kushner and everyone in the United States working toward peace.
“Thank you to President Trump, Steve and Jared, and to everyone in the United States working to make peace our shared achievement,” Zelensky wrote.
