Ukrainian tennis players have set a new national record at the French Open. For the first time in Roland Garros history, four Ukrainian women have advanced to the third round of the tournament.

According to Suspilne Sport, Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Oleksandra Oliynykova, and Yuliia Starodubtseva all secured places in the Round of 32 at Roland Garros 2026.

The biggest upset came from Starodubtseva, who defeated world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the second round. The victory is the biggest by a Ukrainian player in Grand Slam history.

In the second round, Svitolina defeated Kaitlin Quevedo 6-0, 6-4, Kostyuk beat Katie Volynets 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, Starodubtseva overcame Rybakina 3-6, 3-1, 7-6, while Oliynykova defeated Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 0-6, 7-6.

Daria Snigur was the only Ukrainian player eliminated in the second round, losing to Peyton Stearns 4-6, 0-6.

The previous national record at Roland Garros was set in 2025, when three Ukrainian players — Elina Svitolina, Yuliia Starodubtseva, and Dayana Yastremska — reached the third round.

According to Suspilne Sport, this is only the second time in history that four Ukrainian women have reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament. The first such achievement came at the 2024 Australian Open.

In the Round of 32, Svitolina will face Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch, Starodubtseva will play China’s Wang Xiyu, Oliynykova will meet Diana Shnaider, and Kostyuk will take on Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.
