It was the third head-to-head meeting between Kostyuk and Noskova. In April, the Ukrainian defeated the Czech in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, but later lost to her in the Wimbledon semifinals. Noskova is the reigning Wimbledon champion and the world No. 6.

On her way to the fourth round of the US Open, Kostyuk defeated Storm Hunter, Sloane Stephens and Ekaterina Alexandrova. In New York, the Ukrainian reached the round of 16 for the second consecutive year, which remains her best result at the tournament.

In the 2026 season, Kostyuk also reached the semifinals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, while she exited the Australian Open in the first round.

Noskova reached the US Open quarterfinals for the first time in her career, where she is set to face Aryna Sabalenka.
