Next week, the United States plans to hold the first trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi since February. Washington is also working on a new European security framework and considering five main objectives for future agreements.

This was announced by President Trump’s son-in-law and representative, Jared Kushner, on X.

According to Kushner, US President Donald Trump held talks with several European leaders on establishing a broader European security architecture intended to create the conditions for lasting peace.

The discussions built on work carried out this week in Brussels with Ukraine, NATO and European partners.

Kushner noted that for more than 30 years, Europe and Russia have been unable to establish a sustainable security framework due to mutual distrust and competing security concerns.

Five main goals of the talks

According to Kushner, the United States is considering five key areas for future agreements:

        1. Permanent consultations on security issues.
        2. Reliable communication channels for managing crises.
        3. Greater military transparency.
        4. Reciprocal measures to reduce the risks of escalation.
        5. A long-term framework for European security and stability.

Kushner stressed that any agreements must fully respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and right of every country to make its own decisions.

“Each country will retain authority over its own security and alliances, and no country would have a veto over another’s sovereign choices,” he said.

According to Kushner, NATO will remain central to Europe’s collective defence, while the new initiative will build on existing institutions and commitments.

        Talks in Abu Dhabi

Kushner said consultations would continue through the Shell Bay format with Ukraine, NATO, the European Union and European partners. As part of the peace process, the United States also plans to hold talks with Russia.

“Next week in Abu Dhabi, the United States will convene the first trilateral peace discussions with Ukraine and Russia since February,” Kushner said.

He noted that all parties are actively preparing for substantive negotiations. Washington will also consult with European partners on the sidelines of the meeting. If progress is made, the United States plans to move towards a broader multilateral format with direct participation from European countries. Kushner stressed that the proposals are still being developed.
