Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained six people suspected of working for Russian intelligence services and illegally supplying military-related materials to Russia. Over three years, the group transported ammunition components worth more than 2 million Polish zlotys to Russia.
The Polish outlet RMF24 reported the arrests.
Those detained include five Polish nationals aged between 25 and 52 and a 37-year-old Russian woman. A court ordered four suspects held in custody on espionage charges, while the other two were placed under non-custodial preventive measures.
“The evidence collected indicates that those detained were acting on behalf of Russian intelligence services and were involved in activities supporting the Russian Federation’s military capabilities,” said Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s minister coordinating intelligence services.
According to investigators, the group illegally supplied Russia with significant quantities of military-related materials used to manufacture ammunition and weapons systems. These included cartridge cases, projectiles and electronic equipment.
Przemysław Nowak, spokesperson for Poland’s National Prosecutor’s Office, said the suspects had operated for three years in Poland, Lithuania and Russia.
The goods were mainly purchased from online stores and then transported to Russia’s Kaliningrad region. The group used vehicles equipped with specially designed hidden compartments and repeatedly crossed the Polish-Russian border.
Investigators estimate that the total value of ammunition components transported to Russia exceeded 2 million zlotys.
