President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the results of the US elections could strengthen support for Ukraine and restore closer coordination between Washington and Europe. In his view, stronger financial and military assistance from Congress could influence Vladimir Putin’s position and bring possible negotiations on ending the war closer.

Zelenskyy said this in his Telegram channel.

The president stressed that Ukraine enjoys bipartisan support in the United States and is grateful to both Democrats and Republicans for it.

At the same time, according to Zelenskyy, during the election campaign Democrats spoke particularly clearly about the need to support Ukraine and focus on Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“In my view, these links between America and Europe have been somewhat lost over the past two years. And this alliance is very important for us, because without it, stopping Putin is very difficult,” the president said.

He expressed hope that the new balance of power in the United States would lead to increased support for Ukraine.

“If Congress starts talking about strong financial support or support for Ukraine with weapons — the kind of support, for example, that Europe is demonstrating today — that will be positive,” Zelenskyy said.

In his view, such support could make the Russian president reconsider whether it makes sense to continue the war.

“Logically, this would bring us closer to possible negotiations and possible peace,” he added.

Zelenskyy recalls the West’s reaction after the occupation of Crimea

The president also recalled the events following Russia’s seizure of Crimea in 2014.

According to him, both the United States and Europe at the time urged the Ukrainian authorities to avoid escalation.

“We were left without Crimea. After that, we were left without part of Donbas. But there was still constant shooting in the east. There was no peace,” Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that large-scale assistance to Ukraine began only after the full-scale invasion, even though Russian occupation had already lasted for eight years by then.

The president also rejected the idea of territorial concessions in exchange for ending the war.

“We may have less territory, less money, fewer weapons, but we still have more dignity than many others. We will do everything to make sure this war ends, but ends with dignity for us,” he said.

        Why Ukraine wants Taurus missiles

Zelenskyy separately commented on the issue of German long-range Taurus missiles.

According to him, Ukraine needs them primarily to destroy Russian launch sites at a time when there is a shortage of air-defense interceptors.

“When the Americans were unable to provide us with anti-ballistic missiles for air defense, we had only one option: to destroy Russian launchers,” the president explained.

He stressed that these are military targets, not civilian infrastructure or energy facilities.

Zelenskyy also said that the use of Western systems in a real war allows manufacturers to identify weaknesses and improve their weapons.

As an example, he cited Germany’s IRIS-T air-defense systems, which, in his words, have significantly strengthened their reputation thanks to their use in Ukraine.

The president added that defense cooperation with Ukraine benefits both sides — both Ukraine’s defense and the development of European military production.

Earlier, “Glavnoe in Ukraine” reported that US Vice President JD Vance named four reasons why some Donald Trump voters backed Democrats in the midterm elections.
