On September 28, a Russian jet-powered drone struck Ukrainian territory about 2 km from the Dorohusk-Yahodyn border crossing during an attack on Ukraine. Polish airspace was not violated, while Poland’s air defence systems and aircraft were ready to respond.
This was reported by Onet, citing Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz and Jacek Goryszewski, spokesperson for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
According to Goryszewski, the Russian drone struck near the Dorohusk border crossing, close to the village of Yahodyn. Polish military personnel observed the impact.
“Another Russian attack on western Ukraine. A jet-powered drone struck on the Ukrainian side about 2 km from the border crossing with Poland at Dorohusk. There was no violation of Polish airspace,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
According to him, Polish air defence systems and aircraft were ready to respond. After the alert was lifted, the aircraft returned to their bases and air defence systems resumed monitoring and standby mode.
Polish aircraft were deployed during the Russian attack, while airports in Lublin and Rzeszow temporarily suspended flights.
Acting head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Roman Romaniuk said that one jet-powered Shahed UAV was detected during the air raid alert in the Kamin-Kashyrskyi and Kovel districts.
“There was a strike near the border with the Republic of Poland in the village of Starovoitove (Yahodyn border crossing), Kovel district. The blast wave damaged the checkpoint building at the entrance to the terminal. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities,” the statement said.
