Reuters has analyzed the proposals of US President-elect Donald Trump’s advisers to resolve the war in Ukraine. According to their ideas, Ukraine may be offered to give up a significant part of the territories occupied by Russia.

Reuters reports.

Trump’s advisors propose a combination of pressure and incentives: reducing military aid to Kyiv if it refuses to negotiate and increasing it if Russia evades peace initiatives. The key point is freezing the current front lines, ending Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, but providing security guarantees from the United States.

“The advisors will try to force Moscow and Kyiv to negotiate with the help of carrots and sticks. At the same time, Ukraine’s membership in NATO will be taken off the agenda,” the article says.

Keith Kellogg, Special Representative for the Conflict, proposes to establish a demarcation line along the current fronts, freeze Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO but provide it with security guarantees, and support Ukraine with weapons only if it agrees to negotiate.

J.D. Vance, Vice President, proposes to create a demilitarized zone that will become a barrier to further Russian incursions. Richard Grenell, former ambassador to Germany, advocates “autonomous zones” in eastern Ukraine.

Experts believe that such ideas may be opposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who continues to insist on Ukraine’s membership in NATO. At the same time, Trump’s position may also face criticism in the US Congress, where there are conflicting opinions on military aid to Ukraine.
