Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi held a monthly meeting with the commanders of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and electronic warfare units. During the videoconference, the results of December’s work were summed up and plans for January were outlined.

According to Syrskyi, the use of unmanned systems on the battlefield continues to grow. The enemy forces are increasing the share of strike UAVs with fibre-optic control channels, which pose a threat to Ukrainian military equipment. At the same time, the Ukrainian military has also started using FPV drones with similar technology, which significantly increases the effectiveness of defeating Russian equipment and manpower.

Key results of December:

  • The Ukrainian Defence Forces’ UAV operators hit more than 54,000 enemy targets, of which almost half (49%) were hit by kamikaze drones.
  • The highest results were demonstrated by the air defence units of the 46th Airmobile, 57th Motorised Infantry, 28th Mechanised, 35th Marine and 3rd Assault Brigades.
  • The best performing regiment was the BnS regiment led by Major Robert Brovdi.

Oleksandr Syrskyi also heard reports from the Commander of the Air Assault Forces Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi and representatives of the General Staff on the development of unmanned and electronic technologies, including aviation, ground and maritime unmanned systems.

Further development:

  • Work is nearing completion on the concept of a brigade of the UAS, its typical structure and capacity building of brigades with an enhanced unmanned component.
  • Particular attention was paid to the development of the UAS unit of the 155th Mechanised Brigade.

‘I thank the soldiers for their resilience and effectiveness in destroying the enemy,’ Syrskyi concluded. He recognised the best soldiers of the BnS units and set tasks for the next month.
