President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed creating a security mission in the Strait of Hormuz to protect freedom of navigation and coordinate international efforts.

He made the statement during an online meeting on maritime security in Hormuz. According to Zelenskyy, it is necessary to urgently organize a meeting of military teams to work out the parameters of a possible mission, taking into account Ukraine’s experience in the Black Sea, including escorting commercial vessels, demining, and protection from air attacks.

Zelenskyy stressed that decisions regarding the Strait of Hormuz will have global consequences and influence the behavior of other aggressive actors worldwide. He also noted that security challenges in the region cannot be addressed by political measures alone.

The president also said that the war in Iran is already affecting the situation in Europe amid Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, this could lead to a shortage of weapons, particularly air defense systems.

In this context, Zelenskyy called on Europe to strengthen support, especially in countering ballistic threats, and to maintain pressure on Russia. He added that Ukraine is ready to contribute to security both in the air and at sea.

Zelenskyy also emphasized the need for broader coordination among global regions, which should rely more on their own capabilities in security matters.
