Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player Elina Svitolina has reached the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. In the semifinal, the Ukrainian defeated former world No. 1 Iga Świątek in three sets.

Svitolina needed three sets to defeat the Polish tennis player.
The Ukrainian won the opening set 6:4. Svitolina took a 3:1 lead and, after failing to close the set at 5:3, secured a decisive break in the following game.
Świątek won the second set 6:2.
In the deciding set, Svitolina quickly went up 3:0 and eventually sealed the victory with another 6:2 score.
The Ukrainian tennis player has now reached her third WTA final of the season. Earlier this year she won the tournament in Auckland and later finished runner-up in Dubai in February.
In the Rome final, Svitolina will face world No. 4 Coco Gauff. The match will take place on Saturday, May 16.
This will be Svitolina’s third career final in Rome. She won her previous two finals at the tournament in 2017 and 2018.
It is also Svitolina’s second consecutive victory over Iga Świątek after defeating the Polish player earlier this year at Indian Wells in March.
