        Svitolina saved seven match points and advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati

        Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the third round of the Cincinnati WTA 1000 tournament. In her opening match, the Ukrainian staged a remarkable comeback against 19-year-old Czech player Tereza Valentova.

        Svitolina won 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-0, according to the official WTA website.

        Svitolina struggled at the beginning and lost the opening set. In the second, Valentova had seven opportunities to close out the match: five match points at 5-4 and another two at 6-5. The Ukrainian saved all seven.

        Svitolina then trailed 2-5 in the tiebreak but won five consecutive points to force a deciding set.

        The Ukrainian took complete control in the third set and did not concede a single game, winning it 6-0. The match lasted more than two hours and 20 minutes.

        Svitolina served six aces, committed four double faults and converted six of her 12 break points.

        In the third round, she will face China’s Wang Xiyu, who defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
