President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck an important military enterprise in Russia’s Kirov on July 24. According to him, the plant supplies components for aircraft and missile systems that Russia uses in attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities.
The president announced the operation on social media.
“Thank you to our warriors for their precision. This is an absolutely just response,” Zelenskyy said.
The president also reported a strike on an oil facility nearly 1,350 kilometers away. He said there were other successful strikes as well.
Zelenskyy added that an operation against Russian logistics is continuing. Those supply chains provide the occupying army with drone components, navigation equipment and other gear.
He thanked the units of the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies and the Security Service of Ukraine involved in achieving the results.
What is known about the plant struck in Kirov
Earlier, ASTRA reported following an open-source intelligence analysis that explosions and a fire were recorded on the grounds of the Vyatka Machine-Building Enterprise AVITEK in Kirov on the morning of July 24.
The plant manufactures military, dual-use and civilian products, including air-defense equipment, aircraft components, ejection seats, lifting systems and other aviation equipment.
According to the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence project War & Sanctions, the enterprise specializes in producing surface-to-air guided missiles and target missiles. It also participates in the production chain for Tor air-defense missile systems.
Following reports of the attack, Fire Point co-founder Denys Shtilerman posted a pink flamingo emoji on X. The post was interpreted as a hint that Ukraine’s Flamingo missile may have been used, but the type of weapon involved has not been officially confirmed.
