Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the country’s military leadership to discuss countering Russian ballistic missile strikes, the situation on the front line and further long-range operations. Following the meeting, technological steps and asymmetric measures were identified to strengthen Ukraine’s protection.
Zelenskyy reported this following briefings by Mykhailo Drapatyi, Ihor Skybiuk, Yevhenii Khmara and Pavlo Palisa.
According to the president, the participants discussed in detail the challenges created by Russia’s tactics of using ballistic missiles, as well as Ukraine’s ability to counter them at both the military and diplomatic levels.
“We identified solutions and technological steps, as well as asymmetric measures that can provide Ukraine with greater protection,” Zelenskyy said.
Situation near Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka
The military leadership also reported on the situation along the front line, particularly in the areas of Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka.
The meeting also covered the operation of Ukraine’s maritime export corridor, measures already implemented and the next steps planned in this area.
Zelenskyy thanked the service members and units involved in implementing Ukraine’s plan of “long-range sanctions” against Russia.
Ukraine updates priorities for long-range strikes
The president said Ukraine’s “mid-strike” operation against Russian forces and positions in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, including Crimea, was continuing.
The list of priority targets for such strikes was updated during the meeting.
Zelenskyy also instructed the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strengthen information sharing and coordination with the military leadership of countries in the region.
Teams from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence and the Presidential Office will work with European partners capable of helping supply missiles for air-defence systems.
General Staff preparing systemic changes
According to Zelenskyy, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is preparing a series of systemic changes intended to improve assessments of the situation on the front line and enable a faster response to developments.
The changes are also expected to give brigades more opportunities to respond effectively to Russian assault operations.
The president thanked Ukrainian units holding their positions and preventing the Russian army from achieving the objectives set by Russia’s political leadership.
