The Energy Ministry has issued an explanation regarding the forced reduction of nuclear power plant output following massive Russian attacks. The ministry notes that during strikes, energy workers must take preventive safety measures and respond to damage to energy infrastructure.

The information was reported by the Energy Ministry.

The ministry states that several factors require such measures. In particular, preventive power reduction is necessary to comply with safety requirements: a sudden disconnection of high-voltage lines that transmit the output of nuclear units can lead to serious consequences if the units are operating at nominal load.

Another reason is the direct impact of strikes on Ukrenergo substations responsible for transmitting power from nuclear plants. During the massive attack on 19 November, the total nuclear generation in Ukraine’s power system was reduced for a certain period.

As of 20 November, the South Ukraine and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants are operating at their nominal capacity. The Rivne NPP has a slightly reduced output due to the consequences of previous large-scale attacks on the energy system.
