Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said Russia is deliberately redirecting Ukrainian drones toward the Baltic states using electronic warfare systems. The ministry also apologized to Estonia and other Baltic partners for such incidents.

Tykhyi made the statement on X.

According to him, Moscow is “deliberately” redirecting Ukrainian drones toward the Baltics while simultaneously intensifying propaganda around such incidents.

“We apologise to Estonia and all of our Baltic friends for such unintended incidents,” Tykhyi wrote.

He said Ukrainian and Baltic authorities are cooperating closely to investigate each case and find ways to prevent similar situations in the future.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry stressed that, contrary to Russian propaganda claims, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland have never allowed their airspace to be used for strikes against Russia.

“Ukraine exercises its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter; our legitimate military targets are located in Russia; and we use Russian airspace to get to them,” Tykhyi said.

The ministry also stated that Russia has no right to blame Ukraine or the Baltic states for the consequences of its own aggression.

Earlier on May 19, Estonia shot down a drone in its airspace for the first time. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said it was likely a Ukrainian drone heading toward targets in Russia.
