Germany expects that the results of the Hungarian elections will allow for the swift unblocking of financial aid to Ukraine. This refers to an EU loan of €90 billion.
Reuters reports this, citing a German government spokesperson.
Berlin expects that following the Hungarian elections, the European Union’s €90 billion ($103 billion) loan to support Ukraine could be disbursed “very quickly.”
According to the spokesperson, the election results give reason to expect a prompt decision on the funding. The German government noted that they are working on this and are counting on the rapid formation of a new government in Hungary.
Previously, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who lost the election to the center-right Tisza party, had blocked the implementation of this loan. He explained his position by citing the dispute over the Druzhba pipeline, which was damaged by shelling.
