Poland has imposed restrictions on flights along its borders with Belarus and Ukraine following Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine on the night of September 10. The restrictions will remain in effect until December 9 and apply to both civil and unmanned aircraft, with the exception of special flights and military aviation.
This was reported by the Command of the Operational Headquarters of the Polish Armed Forces.
The ban applies to all flights in the EP R129 zone, with the exception of military aircraft.
“At the request of the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, in order to ensure national security, from September 10, 2025 (22:00 UTC) to December 9, 2025 (23:59 UTC), air traffic restrictions have been imposed in eastern Poland in the form of a restricted zone,” the statement said.
According to a statement by PAŻP (Polish Air Traffic Management Agency), the restrictions took effect on September 10 at 22:00 and will remain in force until December 9 at 23:59.
In the EP R129 zone, civilian drone flights are completely prohibited at any time of the day. During the day, from sunrise to sunset, flights are generally prohibited, with the exception of:
manned aircraft that have submitted a flight plan, have a working transponder (A/C or S modes), and maintain communication with air traffic control services;
- military aircraft;
- flights under GARDA and ALPHA SCRAMBLE signals;
- aircraft with special status: HEAD, STATE, SAR, HOSP, MEDEVAC, FFR.
Flights by state aviation, air ambulance services, and air operations related to the elimination of emergencies, natural disasters, threats to human or animal health and life, as well as the protection of critical infrastructure are also permitted.
The restrictions were introduced due to violations of Polish airspace during the Russian Federation’s massive attack on Ukraine on the night of September 10. According to official data, Polish and allied radars detected about 19 enemy drones.
