On September 8, following another massive Russian attack on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said preparations were underway for new meetings with partners and companies on strengthening air and missile defense. According to him, intercepting ballistic missiles remains particularly difficult.

As of the morning, efforts to deal with the consequences of the Russian strike were continuing in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in many other parts of the country. Russia used ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles in the attack, as well as jet-powered “Shahed” drones.
In Kyiv, residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure sustained significant damage. Ten people are currently known to have been injured, while 13 people were rescued by State Emergency Service personnel. Two people were killed.
In Kyiv region, critical infrastructure was struck, while in Odesa region a market was hit. Two people were injured in Kharkiv, and an apartment building was damaged. In Sumy region, the locomotive of the Kyiv — Sumy train was attacked in the morning. Strikes were also reported in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk region.
“In total, our warriors shot down 175 aerial targets overnight, but unfortunately, not all of them. Despite very good results against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles remain particularly difficult, and every day we make the case to our partners for our need for interceptors,” the president said.
He added that Ukraine had already discussed the issue with American and European partners.
“There will be more meetings, including today, with representatives of states and companies that can help with supplies and with our FREYJA anti-ballistic system,” Zelenskyy said.
