The European Commission has approved Ukraine’s request to purchase missiles for Patriot air defense systems under the Ukraine Support Loan. The package is worth approximately €3.2 billion and is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The ministry stressed that the decision is critically important for preparing Ukraine’s air defense for the autumn-winter period.

Patriot missiles are needed to protect civilians and critical infrastructure from Russian missile attacks, including ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara thanked the European Union for its support and for the prompt consideration of Ukraine’s request.

The ministry said it continues working to ensure that partner assistance is translated into concrete capabilities for Ukraine’s defense as quickly as possible.

Earlier, the United Kingdom announced that it would provide Ukraine with Patriot missiles as part of a new winter support package. The assistance is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses ahead of the autumn-winter period.
