US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call lasting about an hour, focused on efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The two leaders also discussed the results of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s trips to Moscow and Kyiv.
This was reported by Russian media citing Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
According to him, Putin and Trump positively assessed the results of Witkoff and Kushner’s contacts and agreed to continue working through this channel.
The Kremlin said Trump stressed his desire to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible and said he was interested in achieving a breakthrough in the peace process during his presidency.
According to Ushakov, Trump also said that ending the war would open prospects for a full restoration of relations between the United States and Russia, including trade ties.
Putin, for his part, presented Trump with Russia’s view of the situation on the battlefield and claimed that Moscow allegedly has no aggressive plans toward Europe.
Ushakov also claimed that Putin outlined what steps, in his view, the United States could take to help bring the fighting in Ukraine to an end more quickly.
The sides agreed to continue working on humanitarian issues, including exchanges of detainees and convicted persons, and to remain in contact and hold further phone calls as needed.
