Prosecutors from the Odesa Specialised Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Region have charged four military officers who, according to the investigation, organised a scheme to falsely enlist so-called ‘dead souls’ and caused millions in losses to the state.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Suspicions have been announced against the former commander of a separate radio-electronic warfare battalion, his deputy, the deputy commander of the unit for logistics, and the company commander.
The investigation established that the officers had falsified the service records of 60 people who were not actually in the Armed Forces. They received payments from the state budget for them, as well as other provisions, in particular food, which they subsequently sold. The total amount of damage caused to the state exceeded 7.7 million hryvnias.
Law enforcement officers accuse the suspects of committing a criminal offence under Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — misappropriation of another person’s property through abuse of official position, committed repeatedly, by prior conspiracy of a group of persons, on a large scale, under martial law.
