On Friday, May 31, at approximately 3:44 p.m., Kharkiv police received a report about a man in military uniform who had opened fire with an automatic weapon in a residential neighborhood on Peremohy Avenue. Eyewitnesses also reported hearing an explosion.
At 4:20 p.m., a special police operation known as “Thunder” was launched. Law enforcement officers promptly arrived at the scene, contained the situation, identified the armed suspect, and began negotiations. Despite lawful demands from the police, the man refused to surrender.
As a result of coordinated actions by police special forces, the perpetrator was detained using special equipment and firearms. According to police, no civilians or officers were injured during the incident. The “Thunder” operation was completed at 5:45 p.m.
An investigation has been launched under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism involving the use of a weapon.
