Apple has reportedly revised its plans for fully under-display Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro. The latest rumors point to a compromise solution that will affect the size of the Dynamic Island.
Apple is said to have stepped back from introducing fully under-display Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro models. According to MacRumors, the company is now expected to implement only partial under-screen Face ID, resulting in a narrower Dynamic Island rather than its complete removal.
As of February 2026, rumors suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will retain the same overall design, with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays respectively, along with a rear camera system featuring three lenses. More power-efficient LTPO+ displays are also expected.
The devices could be powered by the new A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s 2-nanometer process and a new packaging technology. A variable aperture for at least one rear camera is also rumored.
Other potential changes include a simplified Camera Control button without swipe gestures, design updates to the rear Ceramic Shield for MagSafe charging with a more frosted glass finish, and Apple-designed C1X or C2 modems for 5G and LTE connectivity.
Apple may also rely on its own N1 chip or a newer version to support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Another feature under consideration is web browsing via satellite.
MacRumors adds that Apple is exploring new color options, including burgundy, brown, and purple. In addition, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be slightly thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, possibly to accommodate a larger battery.
