Zelenskyy Appoints Zaluzhnyi as Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization

Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has been appointed Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Maritime Organization. The relevant decree was signed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on March 3.

This is stated in Decree No. 151/2025, published on the website of the President of Ukraine.

Valeriy Zaluzhnyi will also serve as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ukraine’s representative to the International Maritime Organization.

For reference. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an international intergovernmental organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. The IMO’s activities are aimed at abolishing discriminatory actions affecting international merchant shipping, as well as adopting norms (standards) to ensure maritime safety and prevent pollution from ships, primarily marine pollution.

Ukraine is a member of the IMO in accordance with the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine No. 3938-XII dated February 4, 1994 “On the Adoption of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization of 1948 as amended in 1982”.
