US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff said during talks in the Kremlin that his communication with Vladimir Putin had become “one of the best and most memorable experiences” for him. He also thanked the Russian leader for the meeting and conveyed best wishes from US President Donald Trump.
This was reported by Russian media.
Witkoff made the remark during a meeting with Putin that was also attended by Jared Kushner.
The US envoy separately conveyed words of gratitude from the family of a released American, to which the Russian leader replied that Trump should be thanked for the release.
Putin, for his part, said Russia was “comfortable working” with Witkoff and Kushner and that such contacts, in his words, “are always beneficial”.
During the talks, Putin also confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner would travel to Kyiv after Moscow to continue consultations.
He additionally said that a request to halt strikes on Kyiv had been delivered to the Russian side through official channels and claimed that no such strikes had been carried out since the start of September 5.
At the same time, Putin said there was no broader agreement with Ukraine on a three-day ceasefire. According to him, the Ukrainian side had only “significantly reduced the number of attacks”.
The Russian leader also pledged that Moscow would do “everything within its power” to ensure the safety of the US negotiators during their mission.
From the Russian side, Putin aide Yuri Ushakov and Russian Direct Investment Fund chief Kirill Dmitriev are also taking part in the talks.
