President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is preparing legislation to regulate private military companies after the war.
The Ukrainian president made the statement during his evening address.
According to Zelenskyy, the government is considering creating a system that would allow veterans and Ukrainian soldiers to use their wartime security experience as a business opportunity.
“Our security export after this war, including for veterans, should become a real business opportunity,” Zelenskyy said.
He noted that the Interior Ministry, intelligence agencies, government officials and the Office of the President are already working on the legal framework for what “is known worldwide as military companies.”
Zelenskyy said he instructed officials to develop the “most optimal format” for Ukraine and ensure the adoption of the relevant law this year.
The president added that leading countries already engage their citizens in private military companies and other security-related structures.
“It is important to provide our state’s response to this niche, this opportunity and this demand in the field of security exports,” he said.
Separately, Zelenskyy said the government is also preparing amendments to draft legislation regulating civilian firearms circulation. According to him, Ukraine needs a “modern and strong law” in this area.
