President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded the military rank of lieutenant general to Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov. This was announced in a decree published on the president’s website.
‘To award the military rank of lieutenant general to Major General Andriy Viktorovych Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,’ the decree reads.
On 16 March, Zelensky appointed Andriy Hnatov as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 27 February, he had been Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
In addition, Zelensky awarded new ranks to a number of senior command officers:
- Brigadier General to the Deputy Commander of the Airborne Assault Forces, Colonel Andriy Tkachuk
- Major General to the First Deputy Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Brigadier General Oleg Lugovsky
- Brigadier General, Commander of the 16th Army Corps of the Operational Command ‘North’ of the Ground Forces, Colonel Yevhen Kurash
- Brigadier General, Commander of the 21st Army Corps of the Operational Command ‘North’ of the Ground Forces, Colonel Valery Kurach
- Major General, Deputy Commander of the Air Force, Brigadier General Serhiy Golubtsov
- Major General, Head of the Eastern Regional Administration of the State Border Guard Service, Brigadier General Oleksandr Ptytsia
- Brigadier General, Deputy Commander of the National Guard, Colonel Oleksiy Osypenko
- Brigadier General, First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, Colonel Oleg Voevodin
- Major General of the Civil Protection Service, Head of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Region, Colonel of the Civil Protection Service Artem Astakhov
- Third Rank Police General, Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Region, Police Colonel Oleksandr Ganzha.
Zelensky also signed decrees granting a number of awards, including the title of Hero of Ukraine.
