The Ukrainian military has demonstrated a video of the destruction of a Russian cruise missile using the IRIS-T air defense system.

The video was published by the Air Command “West” of the Air Force of Ukraine.

As previously reported by the NGO Ukrainian Military Center, the Ukrainian military received the first system in October last year.

IRIS-T is a German medium-range anti-aircraft missile system. The system is designed to destroy cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as airplanes, helicopters and UAVs. The system is based on modified IRIS-T air-to-air missiles.

There are medium- and short-range versions. The IRIS-T SLM can hit air targets at a distance of up to 40 km, and the “shorter” SLS version – up to 25 km.

The launchers can have a wheeled (MAN 8×8) or tracked chassis (two-section all-terrain vehicle BvS10) and contain 4 guides or 8 containers with missiles for vertical launch.

The main means of detecting airborne objects is CEAFAR GBMMR radar with active phased array antennas. The system can also be used with the German TRML-4D radar (Hensoldt), which detects air targets at a distance of up to 250 km.
