In Russia’s Rostov region, around 40 trains went off schedule and are delayed as of the morning of August 23, Russian Railways (RZD) reported, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The company said the contact network near the Serhiivka station on the Rossosh–Sokhranivka section was disrupted due to the fall of a drone. Train traffic has since resumed, but 38 trains are running with delays of up to 3 hours 40 minutes.

Over the past month, Ukrainian drones have repeatedly targeted railway infrastructure in southern Russia, causing delays on major routes, including the Moscow–Rostov–Sochi line.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that during the night of August 23, seven Ukrainian aircraft-type drones were “destroyed.” The number of drones that could not be shot down was not specified.

Acting Governor of Rostov region Yuriy Slyusar said that air defense systems were active in Chortkiv, Sholokhov, and Millerovo districts.

“Fires broke out in several locations due to falling drone fragments, but they were quickly extinguished. No one was injured,” Slyusar reported.
