Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov issued new threats against the United Kingdom over its support for Ukraine. He said Moscow could regard British involvement in strikes on Russian territory as “participation in the war.”
Sergei Lavrov said this in a comment to Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin for Vesti.
Before that, the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom said London would “answer” for strikes by British drones deep inside Russian territory. The diplomatic mission also accused Britain of complicity in Ukraine’s actions.
In his comment, Lavrov went on to speak of alleged “direct participation of British missile forces” in strikes on Russia. He also referred to Vladimir Putin’s words that Russia has the right to act “in any area of the World Ocean.”
“The president warned about our right to act in any area of the World Ocean if someone encroaches on our interests, on our property. In the same way, we have the right to regard the proudly announced direct participation of British missile forces in strikes on the Russian Federation as participation in the war — with all the consequences that follow,” Lavrov said.
Separately, the Russian foreign minister reacted to a statement by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham that the United Kingdom would remain a reliable partner of Ukraine.
“I feel sorry for Britain if it stays with Ukraine until the very end,” Lavrov said.
