On the night of September 4, the Russian city of Sochi came under a drone attack, after which a fire broke out at an oil depot. According to ASTRA, another fire was recorded in the area of a Russian air defense unit near the federal territory of Sirius.
ASTRA reported this, citing an OSINT analysis of eyewitness videos and statements by Russian authorities.
Residents of Sochi reported numerous explosions overnight. ASTRA analyzed footage published by eyewitnesses and concluded that one of the fires broke out near the Psou River, close to the border with Abkhazia.
According to the outlet, a Russian S-300 or S-400 surface-to-air missile system is located in the area. ASTRA stressed that this is an OSINT-based conclusion rather than an officially confirmed strike on the system itself.
According to ASTRA, the same area was also targeted in an attempted attack in May 2026. Local media had previously reported that a large radar had been installed near the Krylya Baltiki beach.
Separately, the Russian operational headquarters of Krasnodar Krai confirmed a fire at an oil depot following the drone attack. It also reported damage to windows in several residential buildings and other structures, as well as localized fires that, according to Russian authorities, were quickly extinguished.
According to preliminary information from the Russian side, there were no casualties.
