On November 3, the Kremlin confirmed that a Russian delegation would arrive in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11 to participate in trilateral talks with Ukraine and the United States. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also said that Moscow, Washington and Beijing were discussing a possible meeting between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping at the APEC summit.
This was reported by Russian media.
According to the Kremlin spokesperson, the Russian delegation will participate in working-level talks scheduled for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi. Peskov stressed that almost all members of the delegation regularly brief Putin on current issues and receive instructions from him.
The possibility of talks between Putin, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping during the APEC summit is also being discussed. Arrangements could be finalized in the coming days. According to Peskov, Russia, the United States and China share an understanding that a meeting between the three leaders would be appropriate.
On November 2, it emerged that Xi Jinping had rejected the idea of a trilateral summit on Ukraine without European participation. As Frankfurter Rundschau reported, citing German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Chinese leader stressed that European countries must participate in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
According to Steinmeier, no preparations are underway for a trilateral summit specifically focused on Ukraine. A meeting between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in China remains possible, but without discussing the Ukrainian issue. Putin initiated the idea of a meeting between the three leaders, proposing talks on nuclear arms control. Trump supported the idea and expressed a desire to discuss other topics, including the war in Ukraine.
