At least 18 people were killed and five others injured in Russian airstrikes on the settlement of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region. After an initial strike on a school where humanitarian aid was distributed to local residents, Russian forces carried out a second attack with nine aerial bombs targeting a shelter where people were staying. Among those killed were a police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers, while another 27 people are considered missing.

This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to him, Russian aircraft struck Komyshuvakha several times since the morning. One of the targets was a school used for humanitarian purposes, where local residents regularly received aid.

After the first strike, Russian forces launched another attack with nine aerial bombs. Zelenskyy said the bombs struck the shelter where people were staying.

So far, 18 people are known to have been killed and five others injured.

A rescue operation and search for people are continuing at the scene. Military personnel, rescuers and special services are involved in the operation.

Zelenskyy stressed that the Russian side could not have been unaware that humanitarian aid was regularly distributed at the location.

The president also linked the attack to what he described as Russia’s lack of willingness to de-escalate following the recent humanitarian operation in Oleshky.

“With such killings, Russia is sending the exact opposite signal — Russia is counting on further killings,” Zelenskyy said.

He called on international partners for a “strong and tough” response to Russia and continued support for Ukraine.

As the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration clarified, the center of Komyshuvakha was struck with at least nine FAB-3000 guided aerial bombs. Among the 18 people killed were a police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers; five others were injured and 27 are considered missing.
