Berlin is introducing a new procedure that will allow for faster deliveries of weapons for air and naval defense. The decision comes amid the war with Iran and growing needs for air defense.
This is reported by Handelsblatt, citing the German Ministry of Economy.
The federal government is simplifying the export of certain types of weapons for air and maritime defense to the Gulf States and Ukraine. The new general license (AGG), which will be valid for six months, enables rapid deliveries. It applies to exports to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Ukraine.
“Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on the Gulf states have created an urgent need for weapons there, particularly for air defense. At the same time, Ukraine’s need for military support, especially in the area of air defense, remains unchanged,” said Economy Minister Katharina Reiche.
She added that the new license enables swift and unbureaucratic exports and serves as a sign of solidarity.
Under the new rules, exporters may carry out shipments without submitting individual applications to the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). This applies to products for air and maritime defense, including demining equipment. The license will remain in effect until September 15, 2026, and requires mandatory registration and monthly reporting by companies.
