Apple may unveil its first foldable smartphone in 2026, according to MacRumors, citing analysts and sources in the supply chain.
According to the publication, the device will be called iPhone Fold and will have a book-like form factor similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, rather than a clamshell design. When folded, it will be about 9–9.5 mm thick, and when unfolded, about 4.5–4.8 mm thick.
Two displays without a noticeable fold
It is expected that when folded, users will interact with an external display of about 5.5 inches, and when unfolded, an internal screen with a diagonal of 7.7-7.8 inches will open. According to some reports, the resolution of the internal display may be 2713 × 1920 pixels, and the external display may be 2088 × 1422 pixels.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the internal screen will be virtually crease-free thanks to the use of a metal plate and liquid metal in the hinge, which should increase strength and reduce deformation.
Titanium body and four cameras
The smartphone will likely have a titanium body, and the hinge will be made of a combination of titanium and stainless steel. According to other estimates, aluminum may also be used.
As for the cameras, a dual 48 MP main module is expected, as well as front cameras for folded and unfolded modes. Some sources point to the use of an under-screen camera for the internal display.
Touch ID instead of Face ID and a proprietary modem
According to analysts, Apple may abandon Face ID in this device in favor of Touch ID integrated into the side button.
The foldable iPhone will also feature a C2 modem, the second generation of Apple’s proprietary cellular modems. There may be no physical SIM card slot.
The largest battery in iPhone history
According to sources, the device may have the largest battery of any iPhone. The company is reportedly optimizing internal components to accommodate more high-density battery cells.
Price — over $2,000
Analysts estimate the possible cost of the device to be in the range of $1,800 to $2,500 in the US. This could make the iPhone Fold the most expensive Apple smartphone in history.
Mass production is tentatively planned for the second half of 2026, although some sources do not rule out a delay until 2027.
