Apple may unveil a special iPhone in 2027 to mark the smartphone’s 20th anniversary, with what could be the biggest design overhaul since the iPhone X. According to preliminary reports, the model may feature curved glass around the corners and edges, along with even thinner display bezels.
This was reported by MacRumors, citing Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007, meaning the product line will turn 20 next year. According to Gurman, Apple plans to mark the anniversary with a separate model featuring a significantly refreshed design.
The device is informally being referred to as the “iPhone 20”. Rumors suggest the glass could wrap around the corners and edges of the chassis, creating an almost seamless all-glass appearance. The bezels around the display are also expected to become thinner.
Bloomberg has described the project as the biggest redesign of the Pro line since the iPhone X was launched in 2017. The iPhone X removed the front-facing Touch ID button and introduced Face ID, allowing Apple to significantly increase the screen area.
The final appearance of the anniversary model could still change. Apple is reportedly continuing to work on the ambitious design, although some elements may be simplified before mass production.
By comparison, the newly introduced iPhone 18 Pro received more evolutionary upgrades. These include the A20 Pro chip, a smaller Dynamic Island, a variable aperture for the main 48-megapixel camera, longer battery life and a larger vapor chamber for improved cooling.
According to MacRumors, the A20 Pro delivers up to 20% better CPU performance and up to 40% better GPU performance compared with the A19 Pro.
If the rumors prove accurate, users who see the iPhone 18 Pro upgrades as relatively modest may choose to wait until next year, when Apple could unveil the anniversary model with an entirely new design.
