Cleanup efforts are ongoing in Kyiv and the surrounding region following a massive Russian attack that left people dead and damaged civilian infrastructure.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that 20 residential buildings were damaged in the capital and dozens of people were injured. As of now, at least four people have been killed in Kyiv, including an ambulance worker. A repeated strike also hit a residential building while emergency services were already responding to the initial attack.
According to Zelenskyy, recovery efforts are also underway in Kyiv region, Lviv region and other parts of the country. All necessary services have been deployed, with authorities working to restore heating and electricity amid a significant drop in temperatures.
Zelenskyy said that overnight Russia launched 242 drones, 13 ballistic missiles, one medium-range ballistic missile known as “Oreshnik,” and 22 cruise missiles. The strikes targeted energy facilities and civilian infrastructure.
He also noted that a Russian drone damaged the building of the Embassy of Qatar. Zelenskyy stressed that Qatar has played an active mediating role with Russia in efforts to free Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians held in Russian prisons.
The president called for a clear international response, particularly from the United States, and emphasized that continued support for Ukraine’s air defense remains a constant priority. He said Ukraine would inform its partners at all levels about the attack and the measures it needs in response.
