On November 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin with his team, where he will hold talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the German president and the president of the Bundestag. The main topics of the meetings will be diplomatic coordination, strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and support for its energy sector.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Telegram.
German media report that the Ukrainian president’s visit had not been announced in advance for security reasons.
“Today, my team and I are in Berlin. There will be meetings with the Chancellor and President of Germany, and the President of the Bundestag. I will also take part in this year’s Berlin Security Conference,” Zelenskyy said.
The president emphasized that coordinating diplomatic efforts ahead of important international meetings would be a key issue in the talks.
“The most important thing is our diplomatic coordination: important meetings lie ahead, strengthening air defenses and supporting our energy sector. These will be the priorities of today’s talks,” he said.
Zelenskyy also thanked Germany for supporting Ukraine and for its willingness to work together to ensure security and protect the international order.
According to Berliner Kurier, Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed his planned meeting with Zelenskyy during a morning event hosted by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The international Berlin Security Conference also began in Berlin on Tuesday. Lithuania is this year’s partner country, and its president, Gitanas Nausėda, is opening the conference. The main topics include the war in Ukraine and the threat posed by Russia.
