Ukrainian special forces, together with the Defence Forces, carried out a combined sabotage operation targeting Russia’s railway infrastructure, sources in Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) told Ukrinform. The results were devastating for the enemy: two Rosgvardia troops were killed and another lost both legs.

The first incident took place on the Maloarkhangelsk–Glazunovka line, where Russian Railways workers discovered mines and called in Rosgvardia engineers. During a botched attempt to clear the explosives, a blast tore through the unit, killing and maiming soldiers while paralysing a federal railway line. By the evening of September 13, more than 15 trains were delayed. Even the region’s Kremlin-appointed “governor” Andrei Klychkov admitted the sabotage, while locals posted videos of the fire.

A second strike followed in the early hours of September 14. At around 2:30 a.m., an explosion hit the Strogonovo–Mshinskaya stretch of the St Petersburg–Pskov line. A locomotive derailed and 15 fuel tankers were destroyed along with their cargo.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, both operations had a common goal: crippling critical rail links that supply occupying forces on the Kharkiv and Sumy fronts. “The destruction of these logistical arteries will severely hit Russia’s capabilities and hamper their ability to carry out offensive operations,” a HUR source stressed.
