Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has published data on 30 pieces of foreign-made technological equipment used by Russian enterprises involved in the production of ballistic missiles and their components. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia’s military-industrial complex remains significantly dependent on foreign technologies.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported this.

The list includes equipment manufactured in China, Germany, Taiwan, the United States, Turkey, Switzerland and Italy.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, these machines and systems are used by Russian plants that manufacture ballistic missiles and individual components for them, including altimeters, aerodynamic control surfaces, gyroscopes and other parts.

The intelligence agency separately noted a growing number of Chinese machine tools and machining centres, including five-axis systems.

At the same time, according to Ukrainian intelligence, Chinese equipment uses European, Japanese and Taiwanese components, including CNC systems, servo drives, high-precision spindles and bearings, measuring and rotary systems, linear guides, and systems for thermal stabilisation and process control.

        What equipment Ukrainian intelligence identified

Among the published items is a GX-650 five-axis universal machining centre manufactured by China’s Hyper Machine Tool.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, it is used by the Votkinsk Plant, which produces 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and the missile section of the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile.

The list also includes turning and milling machining centres made by China’s Shtral. According to Ukrainian intelligence, they are used by JSC PEMZ Molot, which manufactures electronic equipment units for Iskander-M missiles.

In addition, measuring equipment made by the German manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz is installed at the UPKB Detal enterprise, which produces altimeters for Zircon missiles.

Ukrainian intelligence calls for tighter controls

The intelligence agency says it is necessary to strengthen control over the end users of such equipment and its actual place of use, as well as to conduct inspections at the declared installation addresses.

Ukrainian intelligence also calls for enhanced controls to cover spare parts, components, software, updates and servicing required to operate the equipment.

It also proposes regular audits of distributors and intermediaries, investigations into cases where manufacturers’ products are found in Russia’s military-industrial complex, and restrictions on the supply of CNC systems, tools and other components to Chinese manufacturers whose equipment is supplied to Russian military enterprises.
