On the night of September 20, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with other branches of the Defense Forces and under the overall command of the General Staff, struck several strategic targets in Russia, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
According to the military, one of the targets was the Saratov Oil Refinery, which processes around 2.54% of Russia’s total oil output — over 7 million tonnes annually. Explosions and a large fire were reported at the site.
Another strike hit the Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region, which processes more than 8.8 million tonnes of oil per year. Explosions and fires were confirmed at the facility, with details still being clarified.
In addition, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces carried out a strike on the Samara linear production and dispatch station (LVDS) in the village of Prosvet, Samara region. The station mixes high- and low-sulfur oil from various fields to form the Urals export blend, which accounts for up to 50% of Russia’s total oil exports.
The General Staff emphasized that all of the targeted facilities are directly involved in supplying Russia’s armed forces, and that the strikes are aimed at reducing the aggressor state’s military-economic potential and undermining its logistics in the oil refining sector.
“Ukraine’s Defense Forces are systematically taking measures to weaken the Russian army’s supply of fuel and lubricants. To be continued,” the statement said.
