The Trypillian thermal power plant in Kyiv region has once again come under attack by Russian kamikaze drones. According to MP Serhiy Nahorniak, 19 Shahed drones struck the facility during the latest assault. Speaking on Kyiv24, he said that a year’s worth of repair and restoration work at the plant had effectively been wiped out.
The Trypillian plant is a key energy facility in central Ukraine, supplying electricity to Kyiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions. After heavy Russian strikes in the winter of 2022–23, the station had to be rebuilt almost from scratch. In April 2024, it was already targeted in a major attack that forced a complete shutdown.
Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its partners to bolster the protection of its energy infrastructure, particularly generation facilities. According to government estimates, Russian strikes have knocked out more than half of the country’s power generation capacity.
Now, repairing the Trypillian plant will require even more time and resources. Nahorniak said the scale of the damage shows that Russia’s attacks are aimed not only at temporarily disrupting the energy system, but also at systematically destroying critical infrastructure ahead of the heating season.
