The United States has decided to provide Ukraine with intelligence that will help conduct long-range strikes on Russian energy facilities — including oil refineries, pipelines, and power plants.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, Reuters.

This marks a significant shift in the policy of President Donald Trump’s administration, which had previously limited the use of long-range U.S. weapons and related intelligence support.

        What the U.S. support includes

        • Alongside intelligence sharing, Washington is also considering supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles and other advanced systems capable of striking deep inside Russian territory.
        • The intelligence is expected to improve the accuracy of Ukrainian strikes against infrastructure that fuels Russia’s war machine and finances its aggression.
        • The U.S. is also urging NATO allies to join in similar support in order to maximize the impact and weaken the Kremlin’s financial resources.

        Context and challenges

Until now, the United States had provided intelligence for Ukrainian strikes within occupied territories, but not for deep strikes inside Russia.
Although the decision has been made, the exact list of weapons, scale of supplies, and the geographic scope of the strikes are still under discussion.

The Kremlin has already questioned who will ultimately direct these strikes and whether U.S. forces could become directly involved.
