Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that the peace process between Russia and Ukraine is currently “on pause.” He made the statement during a briefing with journalists.
According to the Kremlin representative, Moscow expects the United States to continue its peacekeeping efforts.
Peskov also called attention to Ukrainian drone strikes targeting “civilian sites and civilian infrastructure” in Russian cities and towns.
At the same time, he did not mention the massive drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region on the night of May 17, which the Russian side described as the largest since the start of the full-scale war.
Peskov stated that the Kremlin expects Washington to continue its mediation efforts. According to him, Moscow hopes that the American side will remain involved in the peace process.
The last time Peskov spoke about negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States being “on pause” was in March.
In May, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had managed to convince Russia and Ukraine to agree to a three-day ceasefire from May 9 to May 11. After the ceasefire expired, Russia resumed attacks on Ukraine.
On May 14, 24 people were killed as a result of a Russian strike on Kyiv.
