On the night of 23 May, Ukrainian Defence Forces struck the Energia plant in the Russian city of Yelets, Lipetsk Oblast. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘The strike on the target area has been confirmed, and a series of explosions have been recorded. A fire broke out on the territory of the facility. Detailed information on the consequences of the strike is being clarified,’ the statement said.
The operation was carried out by the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with other units.
PJSC Energy is one of Russia’s key manufacturers of chemical power sources. The plant produces batteries for guided aerial bombs, Iskander-M tactical missile systems, sea-based cruise missiles and other military equipment.
The General Staff notes that the shutdown of this enterprise could significantly limit the capabilities of the Russian army.
